Biological Dentistry of Southern California has been named the winner of "Best Biological Dentist in Southern California 2026" by American Recognition Awards. The practice, led by Dr. Sam Lofquist, DMD, is based in San Juan Capistrano, California, and serves patients throughout Southern California and beyond.
The award recognizes the practice's commitment to biological dentistry and its focus on treating oral health in the context of the entire body. Biological Dentistry of Southern California is a root canal-free practice that emphasizes advanced oral surgery, ceramic dental implants, minimally invasive extractions, biocompatible restorative materials, and synthetic bone grafting alternatives.
Dr. Lofquist's path to biological dentistry began during his professional hockey career. After suffering traumatic dental injuries and undergoing root canal treatment, he experienced a series of health problems that led him to explore biological dentistry as a patient. That experience inspired him to become a dentist and ultimately to establish Biological Dentistry of Southern California.
“I didn’t become a biological dentist because it was trendy. I became one because of what I went through as a professional hockey player and a patient. I’ve experienced firsthand what it’s like to search for answers when your health is falling apart. That’s why I built Biological Dentistry of Southern California. We’re not a conventional dental office with a few holistic services added to the menu. We’re 100% committed to biological dentistry, and I take that commitment seriously. I’ve invested in advanced surgical education, including the Tufts University maxi-residency, because I refuse to settle for doing things halfway. I’m meticulous about our materials, our surgical protocols, and every detail of patient care. I don’t cut corners, and I don’t compromise my standards to make dentistry easier or faster. I built the practice I once needed as a patient, and that’s the standard I hold myself to every single day.”
Dr. Lofquist is the only doctor in Southern California who has completed the Tufts University maxi-residency, according to the practice. He has also earned SMART certification through the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) and has completed 445 hours of biological continuing education.
The practice serves health-conscious individuals seeking a more comprehensive, personalized approach to dental care. Many patients come after researching alternatives to conventional dentistry or looking for providers who consider the potential relationship between oral health and systemic wellness. The patient population includes individuals with complex dental histories, those seeking second opinions, and people concerned about existing dental restorations.
Biological Dentistry of Southern California welcomes patients from Orange County, throughout Southern California, and beyond who are seeking specialized biological dental care.
