Valeria Kuzmina, a Miami-based family and newborn photographer, has been named the winner of the Best Home Family Photographer award by American Recognition Awards. The recognition highlights her natural, story-driven approach to photographing real connection and everyday family life.
Kuzmina works with families, expecting parents, and new parents who want photographs that feel personal rather than overly staged. Many of her clients seek a relaxed experience at home or in meaningful locations around Miami and South Florida, where children can be themselves and real family moments can unfold naturally. Her sessions include newborn, maternity, family, milestone, and at-home photography.
She has developed a strong focus on home storytelling photography, creating images that feel personal, honest, and connected to the places where families actually live. "I try to make every session feel personal to the family instead of following the same formula every time," Kuzmina said. "I use their home, their routines, their relationships and even the imperfect little moments as part of the photographs. I think that is what makes home storytelling so special - the pictures are not only beautiful, they actually belong to that family's life. I also share this approach with other photographers through mentoring and education."
Kuzmina began photography in 2017. "I started photography in 2017, and from the beginning I was more interested in real moments than perfect poses," she said. "I loved the small things - how children move, how families interact, what their homes feel like, and the details people usually do not think to photograph. Over time, that became the direction of my work and eventually shaped my style of home storytelling photography."
Since then, her work has grown from photographing families to developing her own approach to home storytelling photography and mentoring other photographers in this style. Receiving the Travel to Art Award 2025 was a meaningful milestone, as it recognized the artistic side of work based on ordinary family life and real moments.
"I don't photograph children. I photograph their childhood," Kuzmina said.
The Best Home Family Photographer award from American Recognition Awards adds to Kuzmina's growing list of recognitions and underscores her commitment to documenting the genuine, unposed moments that define family life in Miami and beyond.
